I have a HP 7310 all-in-one printer which has the douplex accessory to
generate 2 sided copies. When I do this from the printer standalone,
i.e., I use the document feeder to input either 2 1-sided pages or a
2-sided page and press copy on the printer it doesn' t print the top
1/2 inch (approx.) and bottom 1/2 inch (approx.) on both sides. This
is not stated in the HP manual and technical support never heard of
this. Is this a design flaw or am I doing something wrong? Thank you.

Nearly /all/ printers have un-printable areas unless they are
specifically labeled as borderless photo printers. Even these
generally have margins for document printing, the borderless setting
only works for certain paper types and sizes. I know my business
inkjet with a duplexer has a .12" top margin and a .57" bottom margin,
and if you use the duplexer, the other side of the sheet has even
larger margins. I have to print normally, then turn the sheet over if
I want to use both sides with the 'full' margin size. Your copier
might have a 'fit to page' option, which will take the image of the
whole sheet you're trying to copy, and shrink it enough that all the
data will print within the margins that the printer is capable of. It
is unlikely that it can print to the edge of the paper.

Thank you for explaining this to me. I just think that HP should
explain this in the manual or at least their technical support
personnel should know about this. Most of what I copy 2-sided needs to
print to the edge of the page so I guess I'll have to manually turn the
paper and just pretend it's 1-sided since that does copy to the edge.
It's been a real hassle for me. Would anyone know exactly who I can
write about this since I think it's important for HP to be told of my
experience. Thanks again for your response - at least someone has told
me the truth.
