Hi, my computer has started doing something very annoying, everytime i double
click an icon its opens the properties dialogue. I've noticed its fairly
common for it to open search and have found solutions for that but havent
found a solution to stop it openin properties. This problem doesn't happen
everytime you turn the computer on but most times it does.

Any help would be appreciated.

This may solve your problem,

go to start>run and type

regedit

navigate to the following key

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell

in the right hand pane right-click "default" and select modify then enter
"none"

Good Luck

For folders?

Click Start/Run and type this command to fix this problem:
regsvr32 /i shell32.dll
(Courtesy of David Candy)

To fix this manually via registry:

If this problem is seen for Drives:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell
Set (default) to "none" (without ")

If this problem is seen for folders:

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell]
Set (default) to "none" (without ")

Look at your mouse settings.

Without the quotes BTW

Also at
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell
and
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell
which are also likely to have gone wrong
