Double click not working on various desktop icons

Hi,
I wonder if anyone else has had this problem. not all the time, but more
often then not, when I double click on some of the desktop icons I get the
hour glass showing for about a second, then it dissappears and nothing else
happens. It started to happen with a couple of website links I have on my
desktop, but now it has started to effect some icons as well. eg, about 8
icons are not double clicking at the moment, but the rest are, but if I
reboot, they may work for a short while. It is not a mouse problem, and it
is not the speed setting of the double click. I have also scanned for
viruses, but nothing.
Any suggestions

I've had it happen too. But when it happens to me, I can't open it with
right click and "Open" either. It usually takes a reboot to cure it. It
hasn't happened often enough that I've tried to pursue the cause.
