Ok so I have multiple printers that this has happened to. For some
reason when installing Local printers to my users computer Windows XP
has the printer use a Dot 4 port. Now all these local printers that
have had this happen to have been connected with a Parallel printer
cable which normally uses the LPT1 port by default. So the users will
be working fine then one day they will call me saying that the printer
stopped printing and that it keeps saying there is an error. So I go
into the printer settings under the ports tab you see that the Dot 4
port was selected by windows and that the LPT ports are not being used.
So I tell the printer to use the LPT1 port and away it goes. Any idea
why windows XP keeps putting it to this Dot 4 port then suddenly stops
working.
