dos prompt (command.com) problems

1. doskey command not functioning.
2. printing to a barcode printer (attached to COM1) from a dos program, a
error 'write fault error writing device COM1' show, even i typed 'MODE
COM1:9600,N,8,1' at dos prompt as what i did in WIN98.

pls help.

There is no DOS prompt, or active DOS code, in XP so you can often
expect problems with DOS apps. Further, many older DOS apps try to
access the hardware directly without relaying through the OS. XP will
NOT allow this and slam the lid shut on the application. Perhaps that
is what is happening to you?
