DOS not working

Hi ,
I am using win xp(sp2), the DOS is not working means if i type any commands
it showing " is not recognized as an internal or external command,operable
program or batch file". But i don't have any system errors at the running.
Give a solution.

From a command prompt type

path

and make sure that the windows\system32 folder is included.

No, not the folder itself, but a reference to it when you type

path

from a command prompt.

Well, yes, of course it's there; if the folder and its contents were
missing, Windows would not run.

What you need to do is ensure that its specified as part of the search
path.
