Doom 3 Benchmarks

[First of One]

Demo1 "Medium": 26 fps
Demo1 "High Quality": 26 fps
Demo1 "High Quality" but at 1024x768: 26 fps

I guess my CPU is holding things back.

System Specs:

AthlonXP 1.4 GHz
384 MB PC133 RAM
Elitegroup K7S5A Mobo
ATi Radeon 9800 Pro 128 MB
SBLive
120 GB Seagate 'Cuda 7200.7

Note that load times are rather short and my system isn't swapping mid-game,
so the RAM is "sufficient".

Doom3 seems to call a function only present in the NT kernel, so Win98
doesn't work. The installer actually lets you continue with a warning. I ran
XP dual-boot on a second hard drive.

And some Dual Channel PC3200 ram , ive got to plonk a 9800 Pro in
mys system and see HE HE, 9600 pro at the moment

Just wondering what you all think of the Macromedia protection system that
Doom3 installs onto your system? "DRVSEC.SYS" won't let you play copied
DVD's or copy originals, etc.

I've heard of this for a while, but just noticed it on the Doom3 CD's.

I Googled for this file and had lots of hits but no definitive statements as
to what this actually does to my system. I don't want it running in the
background eating up resources.

Nor do I actually have Doom 3 "installed" under WinXP. I installed it under
Win98, only to find it didn't work. So I booted into XP, browsed to the
Doom3 folder and ran the EXE directly. Doom 3 is not dependent on the
Windows registry or any files in the system folders.

Indeed. I currently have 1 GB of Corsair PC3200 on order, should arrive
tomorrow. The Mobile Barton will follow. The $50 motherboard can stay.

Actually secdrv.sys, which is part of the Safedisk copy-protection,
been around in one form or another for a LONG time and certainly
likely to interfere with copies of Safedisk-protected software unless
the copier modifies code to circumvent the protection or is
capable of EXACTLY replicating the original disk. Safedisk is not
used on DVD-video, but may be implemented for DVD-rom
based games.
