Thanks Ian, for posting this.

I read it. What bugs me about the guy who posted the applications: He
asked for donations, waited, what, a weekend, and now he's pissed
because people aren't showering him with money he's all grumpy and
loading it up with nag screens. I've had a donations link up to Paypal
for months and only now am I starting to get donations.

(P.S. To those who donated - thank you again! If you haven't gotten
your CD yet, it's 'cause I don't have your address! Contact me!)

It sounds like this guy was looking to write and distribute freeware...
and get paid for it.

Anybody see anything wrong with this picture?

Yes, he seems to be really not thinking in realistic term.
His program only came out 3 months ago. Yes, he gets a lot of
downloads and some mailing list traffic, but he is thinking
that all the downloaders are actual *users*. It could easily
include people who downloaded it, tried it out, disliked it,
or not use it often enough to think of giving a donation. It
also includes people who are still thinking that they are
trying out the program.

It sounds like this guy was looking to write and distribute
freeware... and get paid for it.

From a post he gave here, I think that is quite likely. He is
thinking donationware in freeware term.

It is interesting to read the thread in acsa, where at least one of
posters is making it quite clear that they have a very liberal
definition of 'freeware' since a listing on a freeware site gets them
more downloads and thus more potential income.
Nice also to see freeware users referred to as 'freeloaders'.
