Domains and WINS

I have 2 W2K domains (DOM1, DOM2), in separate forests
separated by a router. WINS server for both is DOM1.
DOM1 can get to DOM2 fine, but DOM2 cannot get to DOM1.
DOM2 can "see" DOM1 in network neighberhood and can see
DOM1 DC icon. When trying to access DOM1 DC from DOM2 I
get "DOM1 DC not available - There are currently no logon
servers available to service the logon request". Also,
when trying to set up DOM2 trust to DOM1, get "Domain
cannot be contacted" error and no trust is established.
Everything works OK from DOM1 to DOM2 but nothing works
from DOM2 to DOM1.

thanks

I don't know why you would need 2 domains in the first
place in w2k if it is the same company. You have made it
harder on yourself.

the issue you have sounds more like a router issue.
check you gateway and path back to the other domain.

I finally got the 2 domains talking to each other, but I
have a few other questions. Sometimes the DC's are
extremely slow. I'll open up an administrative tool and
it will take about 1 min. or more before the window
actually opens. When it is rebooted things work much
quicker, at least for a while. Right now we are using one
dual-processor W2K Server that is the DC, DNS server, WINS
server and DHCP server for a small network with 13 other
hosts consisting of W2K server, W2K Pro WinNT 4.0, and
VxWorks. Are we maxing out the W2K Server? There are
also similar problems on at least 1 of the computers
(takes too long to start applications - reboots help for a
while). Could this be part of over working the W2K
Server?

thanks!
