Domain laptops in a peer-to-peer environment in the field

In our Network, the users connect to our Domain, no problem. They need to go
out in the field and setup a peer-to-peer environment and share files
connected to a Linksys router. These routers are providing them a range of IP
addresses (10.6.102.xx). We are struggling with them being able to see and
share files. What would the best way to set these laptops up so the users
don't have to 'think'? We have setup a "files" folder on the local machines
and given 'everyone' full control. We have created a 'field' user account on
the local machine, all with the same password. They are logging into the
local computer account, not their domain account. Sometimes they can see each
other...sometimes they can't. Sometimes they can see each other, but not
access the 'files' folder. Sometimes they can't see each other, but can ping
each other. Sometimes using Network Neighborhood works and sometimes using
the UNC path works....

Check http://winhlp.com/wxnet.htm for some advice and also

laptop to a workgroup").

You cannot do this within the domain model; a computer away from the
authentication server(s) cannot share files. That's just the way it is.

If you need to share files in the field then you need a workgroup topology.

Ian,

I can't confirm this. Domain members that are away from their
domain can still connect to other computers and share data.
