Does XmlDataDocument keep a copy of data for a DataSet?

Hi,
When I synchronize data between DataSet and XmlDataDocument,
Will XmlDataDocument keep a copy of data or it just stores pointers
to DataRow objects in the DataSet?

AFAIK it just stores pointers to DataRow objects in the DataSet
