Or does one have to get a third party program like Adaptec Easy CD
Creator or Nero?

Thank you in advance.

I don't believe it does come with a CD copier. I use the
Roxio system that came with my pc.

I should have been more specific. How about Audio CDs exactly like the
original?

Thanks Richard. Yeah, this Toshiba notebook with Windows XP Media Center
(OEM), doesn't even come with a CD burner software for the DVD-RAM burner.

It does not come with one.

Although you can copy files to a new cd, that's definetly
not the same as making a backup copy. And of course, it
wont work with audio or multi-session cd's.

I think it's safe to say that absolutely nobody
understands why Microsoft only went half way with their cd
burning. They should have added copying & ISO burning /
creation.

You'll need to use a third party program.

There are a couple free ones. Deepburner and cdburner xp
pro come to mind. But I have *NOT* used them so I can't
say how good they are.

Go over to the Micrsoft feedback and request that
feature. It wont do any good, but it might make you feel
better.

Probably afraid some other company might cry about integrating it into XP
and trying to "take over the world!" lol

Thanks. Anyone has recommendations on a free simple CD copier?

Pay the money, it's worth it. Download the Nero Demo and try it for free for
I believe it's 90 days.
http://www.nero.com/us/index.html
You'll like it and probably be willing to register it.

No XP does not have a built in Disk->Disk copy program. For that you do need
third party software.

The only method the inbuilt burning will achieve is to copy the files on
a CD down to hard disk and make a new CD from them, which is rarely
satisfactory. For data CDs one possibility is 'ISORecorder' from
http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm
which is free, though a modest PayPal contribution is appreciated by the
