Does soundman.exe need to be loaded at startup?

My system tray has an icon for soundman.exe. I guess that it is because
it is checked in MSConfig.Startup. I need more room on the Taskbar so
would like to not have it started an startup. What is the purpose of
Soundman and will I suffer if I don't have it loaded at startup?

Thank you very much.

Some further info on this. I do have an Avance audio card so I imagine
soundman was part of the driver installation for that device.

Thanks again.

Chances are its just your sound cards special volume/tweak control. In
theory you dont need it loading there.

You are correct - Soundman comes from your Avance soundcard. You do not
need to have it start with Windows and can disable it with msconfig:

Go to Start>Run and type (without quotes) "msconfig" [enter]. This
brings up the System Configuration Utility. Look on the Startup tab and
find the Soundman entry. Uncheck the box next to its name, Apply and OK
out. You don't need to restart immediately, but the next time you do
you'll get a dialog saying you've used the Utility. Just tick the box
that says in effect, "don't bother me about this again".

Thank you. I will un-check it right now.
