Does Samsung 213T hurts your eyes?

B

Bruno

In my case, I switched from an old 17inch CTX CRT, a solid
good-quality monitor, to the newest 21.3 inch LCD - Samsung
213T. I set the brightness to 50%. After using it for the
last few days, My eyes feel stinging and dry. It could be
the effects of my usual spring allergy, but my allergy
usually causes itchiness only.

If you happen to own Samsung 213T, do you have similar
experience?

Do you have the refresh rate set to 85 or higher?

That matters? It's set to 60. I hope that's the cause.
I've changed it to 100. Hope it'll be easier for my eyes.

Same here, about six months ago I bought a 213T but have not noted any
difference. I have lots of allergy problems and this time of year I
just use a OTC eye drop for relief.

Sorry. My reply was based on my experience with CRT monitors.

I missed the clearly stated "LCD" part. Afterwards, I canceled my
post. Out of curiosity, went to Samsung's web site and looked at
the specifications. As stated, the vertical refresh rate goes up
to 75.

Good luck.

Yeah I see the page says "scanning frequency of 30-81kHz
horizontal and 56-75 vertical." But I'm able to set both
T213 and graphic card to 100hz on the display property page.
The monitor is listed as "Plug and Play Monitor" though,
instead of its real model.

Not that it would matter now, but reduce the refresh rate to 75
hertz.

You are looking at video card capabilities, connected to an
unrecognized monitor. I don't know whether your monitor can be
damaged or whether it copes somehow (apparently), but there is every
reason to believe that the manufacturer stated capabilities are all
it can do. Look for driver files for your monitor on Samsung's web
site. Once installed, you will see the correct monitor name and the
correct refresh rate capability.

Taking a wild guess. Also possible is that the refresh rate settings
for your LCD monitor are someplace other than video properties
(maybe Control Panel). If that were the case, installing drivers
probably would help you find that too.

Good luck.

maybe it is due to the different resolutions. What did you have on the 17
inch crt? if i recall correctly, the native resolution of the 213t is
1600x1200, are you running at this resolution?

I'm running at 1600x1200. I don't recall what the crt was but it was
very similar.

In that case it might be that your eyes are doing more darting around to
take in the larger size of the new screen. Try moving the lcd a little
further away and see if that helps. The other thing might be that the
lcd's default brightness/contrast settings are set pretty high, try turning
them down a bit.
good luck

I have a 213t and love it. Haven't had any eye issues or any other issues.
This display is unbelievable!
