Does RAID stress your drives more thana single drive ??

I want to try a raid array just two 160 gig SATA drives. Raid 2 i
think ??

I want to have the data safe. But i will be using my old 160 drive as
a backup and storage for all my important files.

What raid would you recommend ??

No it doesnt except when they are mounted too close
to each other so the drives get hotter than one would.

Nope, 0 or 1 or 0/1 etc.

I want to have the data safe.

Then you should avoid 0 as it increases the risk
to your data. Losing either drive will lose the data.

But i will be using my old 160 drive as a
backup and storage for all my important files.

What raid would you recommend ??

1 is the only thing that doesnt increase
the risk to your data with just 2 drives.
