Does Outlook's junk filter open closed ports?

I am putting a router on my cable connection for a computer running XP Home.
I have read that many 3rd party mail filters keep a port open because they
filter the e-mail before it gets to your computer. Is this also true of
Outlook 2000's filters? If so, can anybody recommend how to prevent it
happening with outlook's built in filters or reccomend a 3rd part filtering
program?
 
No, Outlook 2000 filters are rules based.
