Does MSN Messenger V6 support audio on Windows 98

Does anyone know if MSN Messenger V6 will support audio on Windows 98. I've
checked the on-line help in MSN Messenger V6 and could not find any
information on compatability.

I know that Windows Messenger will support audio/video only if both ends are
using Windows XP, but I'm not sure how MSN Messenger fits in to the
equation.

Thanks
Mike

Greetings Mike,

By "the book" (that is, what's 'supposed' to work), all MSN Messenger versions 4.x and above,
regardless of Windows version are compatible with the audio of every other Messenger client,
Windows Messenger or otherwise. So, for example a MSN Messenger user on Windows 98 can
communicate with a user on Windows Messenger 5 (via audio/text) without a problem.

The Windows Messenger restriction (XP only) refers to video.

User experiences vary, a large number of Windows 98 users using MSN Messenger 6 have had to
replace some DLLs with older versions in order to get the audio function to work (with
anyone, regardless of Windows version), but certainly they are compatible with one another by
"the book".

MIKE, I have found out that if you uncheck the DoS packet
scheduler in most cases it frees the voice up in
messenger 6. Go to contol panel-network connectiosn -
right click on properties-uncheck DoS ps. This is from
Miccrosoft

Hi Hal,

Does that apply to those users who run Windows XP, Windows 98 or both?

Mike
