Does Mozilla Have These Features Yet?

Okay so I've been playing around with Firefox and there are two things I
like that my old version of Mozilla doesn't have: Toolbar Customization
and Create Search Bookmarks by Right-Clicking in a Search Box (it actually
has a different name). Does the latest version of Mozilla have either one
of these features? Thanks.

P.S. I'd try it out myself, but they don't recommend having two versions
of Mozilla at the same time, and I've done a lot of work to customize my
old version.

No, Firefox has more enhancements to the interface like the ones you are
requesting. The core application (primarily the rendering engine) is
the same in Mozilla and Firefox, but the development work for the
interface is happening in Firefox. I use Mozilla for mail and Firefox
for browsing. Once I am confident with Thunderbird, I will probably
drop Mozilla completely.

Okay thanks. I really like the FF interface, but I don't want to give up
the integrated editor of Mozilla, so I guess I'll be using a bit of both.

I suppose you already have heard of NVU? This is the WYSIWYG HTML
editor that's based on Mozilla Composer, and might be a good
replacement for the integrated Moz editor...

Anyway, just mentioning :)

.... and by coincidence, today NewsForge published an article on
integrating Firefox with other applications:

Might be a good way to approximate the integration that you
appreciate in the Mozilla suite.

i hadn't seen that, but wondered. i've been using both, often simultaneously. no idea if that's caused problems more frequently.

Using both Firefox and the Mozilla suite at the same time is no
problem. The executables and the data files (profiles &c.) are kept
completely separate.

Using two different versions of the suite or two different versions
of Firefox is trickier, but can be done.

Yes, Firefox can create "search bookmarks" (as you call them) by
right-clicking a search box and selecting "Add a keyword for this
search".

And was, in fact, recommended during the process of developing the
suite.

Thanks for that. I'll have to check out the Launchy extension. It says
you can integrate Firefox with Composer that way.

I can report the the Launchy extension works great.

So I went ahead and made Firefox my default browser. I can now access
Mozilla thru the Launchy extension when I need Composer.

And by making Firefox my default, I have all the neat GUI features that
Mozilla lacks.

An excellent solution for me.

Thanks for reporting, glad it worked out.

Just out of interest: did you try NVU, and if so, how do NVU and Mozilla
Composer compare?

Thanks,
Wald

I tried NVU awhile back. But I didn't give it a real thorough look. I was
just interested to see if it had the one thing (for me) that Composer
lacked -- synchronized source & preview screens. And it didn't. So I went
back to Composer.

That lack of synchronization is why I also won't use NVu. Since I have it
available and since MS has gone to some pains to make it more possible to
write standards compliant, I use FrontPage. Synchronization for both
composer and NVu would be a great improvement.

Has anyone done this with the Composer in Netscape 4.6 ? If so then
would you mind doing a "step by step" here please ? The above page
only seems to mention the latest Mozilla Composer.

Regards, John.
