Does anyone have a dial-up modem that works on Vista?

Hello all. I have a U.S. Robotics Fax Winmodem that isn't working properly
since I installed Windows Vista Beta 2. It was recognized by the computer
after I reinstalled the driver but then an error message comes up saying that
the U.S. Robotics driver interface has stopped working and needs to be shut
down. No matter what I do, the modem is recognized but the driver doesn't
work. So, does anyone have a modem that does work with Vista or does anyone
have any ideas on how to get around this? I got the modem to work for about
a minute before the computer froze up and after a reboot the same error
message came up! Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks much in
advance for your help!

Thanks again!
Dave

Dave,

Did you check U.S. Robotics site for any drivers for your winmodem. Their
site is http://www.usr.com/home.asp . Good luck. If you would have given
more details, such as which model you have someone (or I) may have helped a
little bit more.

Sorry about that. I have a V.92 Fax Winmodem model #USR5699B. If you need
any other info, I'd be more than happy to share!! I've downloaded the latest
driver from the USR website and that seemed to work for about 10 seconds and
then the driver interface crashed again. It continues to do that if I
reinstall it. Thanks for any help you can give!!!!!!!

I have the same exact problem down to the error message about the modem
driver interface stops working. I can get the 5699B USR to work by
uninstalling and then have Vista detect and reinstall. I can then dial the
internect connection but it doesn't complete as the driver interface stops
working(I have been unable to connect with Vista). I have a clean install on
a new hard drive WD 1600 SATA II jumpered to SATA I- Soyo KT600 Dragon plus
2.0 Motherboard AMD XP2700+ 1GB memory

So.... does anyone know what modems actually work??? I have a Best Data V92
56k internal modem (#56HP) and it doesn't work. In fact, when I attempt to
install the XP driver for it, I get a blue screen of death and it does a
memory dump and reboots. I've tried using generic drivers for it and that
doesn't work either (usually error code 10, whatever that is).

If I can't get this modem to work today.. guess I'll have to go back to XP.

I had the same problem USR5699- Usr tech says they only had two new models
with Vista drivers- I didn't try to edit the new models drivers etc. Instead
I dug out all the old modems (5) I had and tried them all until I found a
cheapo I bought 3-4 years ago from CompUSA- their private label version from
PCTEL model FS-LEC -SKU 274406 I bought for about $25 it's a V92 with voice
etc. It connects slower than my Zoom model on my other computer but still
comnects at 46.6. The model ID is
Modem1="HSP56 MicroModem" on the hgardware ID for XP-Vista. PCTEL is no
longer making modems- sold out to Connextant- you may get info/support from
them and find out if they are still making OEM modems like mine -"cheap"

I've had the same problem with 2 Creative Blaster Modems (DI3655 and DI5633)
The XP drivers will not even install and no generic drivers seem to work
