I am trying to find an application (and it really doesn't have to be
microsoft) that will do as good or better than the old Adobe Pagemaker in
desktop publishing. In particular, I would like to be able to do things that
is like a math book. Symbols, special characters and such. If there is a
way to post a .jpg of an example, I have one. If someone could point me to
the proper place to do so I would appreciate it. If anyone has any ideas at
all I welcome them.

You might try Serif Pageplus X2. Pageplus does lots of things that Pagemaker
doesn't do. It's not expensive and you can get an older version free from
www.freeserifsoftware.com or the X2 version at www.serif.com
