Documents & Settings query

In my "Documents and Settings" directory I have some directories called as
follows:

Local Service
Local Service NT Authority

I have the same listed as Network Service etc

There are 4 directories like this. This is in addition to Default User and
My name directory which have all my desktop and favorites etc info.

do I need these Local and Network directories in addition to my regular
directories.

I run Windows XP Prof SP2 with all updates installed.

Any help appreciated.

These are system files and are supposed to be there. Leave them alone.

Thank you. But what do they do and why are they there?
They have only shown up recently and seem to be proliferating I'm up to 003
now.

If they've only shown up recently it's because you have recently
unhidden all the hiddens files and folders. They've always been there.
