Documents and Settings

Wayne Drew

I have purchased a number of Windows XP computers for my
business. I now find that the person who activated the
computer is shown as the registrant and also their name
appears as the username under Documents and Settings. In
certain cases either the computer has been switched to
another user or the employee has left the job. The name
appearing under Documents and Settings therefore makes no
sense. Is there a way to change the initial username
appearing under Documents nd Settings folder?? Changing
user names for the computer under the Control Panel has
no impact on the username appearing in the Documents and
Settings folder.

Hi Wayne,

The only way to change the name is to delete the specific User Account and
then re-create another account with the desired name. You may transfer all
the files/settings by copying the existing acount to teh newly created
account. To do so, right click on the My Computer icon and select
properties. Flip to the advanced tab and click on settings under User
Profiles.Select the account you want to copy and click on Copy To. Also
remember that this operation has to be performed from a third account and
not from the source or target account.
