documents and settings separate partition

I have seen this done, but I am wondering how one actually does this. The
entire documents and settings structure can be mapped to another partition or
drive. I know how to link to another my documents location, but how do I move
all of documents and settings so that windows can always be reinstalled
without any restoration of the user data?

Hi Steve,

Safest way to relocate the Profiles directory is using unattended
installation. See this KB for more information.

An error message informs you that you cannot move or rename the Documents
and Settings folder:

Alternately you can customize the Windows XP installation using a deployment
tool such as nLite.

Hi Steve,

If you want to change the location of the entire Document and Settings
folder take a look at the article below:

Cannot move or rename the Documents and Settings folder

If you just want to change your local profile path, you can do it in the
registry or on user properties. You can find the registry setting in
(Start/Run/regedit):

HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows
NT/CurrentVersion/ProfileList/{SID}/ProfileImagePath

Or change the user properties:

1.Click Start and right click My computer

2. Click Manage

3.Open Local Users and Groups and User

4. Right click appropriate user and select Properties

5. Select the Profile tab change Profile path to appropriate one
