"Documents and Settings" disappeared

While accessing the Documents and Settings folder on a
Win2K SP4 system from a XP system over the network, we
attempted to set the hidden files visible. Instead the D
& S folder became invisible on both systems, and all user
settings (shortcuts, favorites, My Documents, Programs,
etc.) have disappeared from the Win 2K system.

The good news is that searching from the remote system
with "Search hidden files..." set shows that the folder
and files are still there (but not visible when searching
from the local Win 2K system).

How do we get the Win 2K system to recognize the user
data again? Thanks for any help.

Seize ownership of "Documents and Settings", then give
everybody full access.
