Document opens in two page mode

Some documents that I open come up side by side in two page format. I know I
can click the One Page icon in the toolbar and get rid of it but it's
annoying the hell out of me. I've gone through the Options and don't see any
way to fix this so that all documents open in 1 page.

Can anybody help?

Or (in Word 2003 at least) Tools | Options... "General" tab and clear the
"Allow starting in Reading Layout" checkbox.
