i was re-editing a word document on a floppy disk for about an hour. then
when i closed a document that i saved. i tried to reopen the original
document and the keyboard wouldn't type anything i turned off the computer,
unplugged the keyboard cord, tried to copy the document to "my documents".
nothing has worked. i even opened up a blank document and the keyboard still
wouldn't type. and this is only when i try to type in microsoft word. i have
microsoft office word 2003

Sorry. It is almost certainly gone. I hope you had a backup.

If you want to be able to use your documents, when working within Word, act
as if your floppy drive does not exist! (This applies to CDRW/CDR drives as
well.)
Don't use Word to:
Open a document on a floppy
Print a document on a floppy
Edit a document on a floppy
Save a document to a floppy (not even a copy)

Word regularly trashes documents on floppy drives!

Instead, work on the document using your hard drive. Copy it back and forth
using Windows.

If you want, search these groups for the word floppy and see what you find.
