Document file letter date

When I pull a letter out of my document file it always has the current date.
How can I get it to keep the date when it was written?

In the template that you use to create the letter, use a CREATEDATE field.

I will assume that you inserted the date via the Date and Time... button on
the Insert menu.

When you do, make sure not to check the "Update date automatically" box in
the Date/Time dialog box.

Press Alt+F9 to reveal the field code of the date you have (it will show
DATE or TIME); edit this to read CREATEDATE, Alt+F9 to toggle back, and F9
to update. To insert the field in a new document/template, use Insert |
Field: CreateDate.
