Document conversion

I am working on converting several large documents from an AS/400 system into
Word. The original documents are formatted in Courier font with spaces used
to center and space words in the document.

Is there a way to get rid of all these 'formatting' spaces without removing
the necessary spaces between words? I'm using Find and Replace right now,
searching for 'white space.' This is working, but is clunky.

When you change the paragraph alignment to centered and then back to left- or
full-justified, Word will automatically delete all leading and trailing
spaces from each paragraph without deleting any spaces between words. So in
Word, press Ctrl+A to select the whole document. On the Formatting toolbar,
click the align Center button and then either the align Left or align
Justified button (or click on Format | Paragraph | Indents and Spacing |
Alignment: Center | OK | Format Paragraph | Indents and Spacing | Alignment:
Left or Justified | OK).
