Document changes from English words to symbols

I was saving a document and the document content changed from english words
to symbols; Can somebody help me restore the symbols back to english words;
I've spent 3 days working on this document and would prefer to not have to
redo all of this work. Thanks
 
Your use of the word "document" makes me think you're talking about
something you've created in Word.

This newsgroup is for questions about Access, the database product that's
part of Office Professional.

You'd be best off reposting your question to a newsgroup related to Word.

You're asking in the wrong place: this newsgroup is for the database software
Microsoft Access, which doesn't use documents. I'm guessing you're using Word.
Please repost your question in a Word newsgroup.

It may be something as simple as having inadvertantly changed the document's
Font to something like WingDings, which displays ordinary characters as
symbols.
