DOC to HTML converter

Oh, dear

I've just started using Open Office and it allegedly opens .wps - I haven't
got one to try it on.

I really don't want to install Open Office just to view one file. I
have little use of most of it nowadays (and I've already got Lotus
1-2-3 spreadsheet s/w installed).
If the doc is not to private, and you could get the file to me somehow
(email attachment, posted on the web etc) I could try to convert it and get
it back to you. (email attach or on my webspace)

No, I'd better not send it over because I don't know what's in it!
It's from a German friend who lives in the US and has just moved to a
new house, so it maybe pix of the new house etc etc but on the other
hand maybe it's not!. I've asked him to send it over again in a format
which I can use .pps or .html or .something.

Thanks for the offer anyway, much appreciated.

I suggest that you 'suck it and see' yourself.

OK. I wasn't trying to be difficult.
It's just that it's a whopping 9mb install program and I have use
for such a thing only occasionally, so although it's a 'nice to have'
I'd want to be sure it's worth the space and un-troublesome to use.
I'm certainly not going to suck it for you.

I wouldn't dream of asking! ;-)

Works) into something I can open because I don't have Works on my PC.

I had the same problem. Go to http://www.google.com/microsoft
and search for these free programs:-
wp6rtf.exe (Works 6.0 Converter for Works and Word Users)
wpKrtf.exe (Works 2000 Converter for Word 97/2000 Users)

Thanks, those progs are interesting except that they only convert .wps
files from MS Works into something which can be opened by MS Word
(each one working on a different version), which I also don't have
installed and wouldn't dream of doing so; this is probably the first
and last .wps file I'll ever receive so I want to avoid installing a
bloated MS application.

I had a look around Google and there doesn't seem to be a .wps
*viewer* available like there is for PowerPoint .pps files or even for
MS Word .doc files.

Guess I'll just have to hope the sender can re-send in a more regular
format.

Actually, the free Word viewer from MS can open wps-files, from the
website:

"In addition to Word document files (.doc), you can also open files saved
in the following formats:

# Works 7.0 (.wps) "

Thanks it was a good try ...but I've just d/l this viewer and
installed it but it doesn't open the .wps file I have. All the viewer
shows is a pile of gobbledegook characters which are unreadable.
And all that after selecting a variety of char sets in the viewer.

Most versions of Works will save in Word format. If you ask the people
who sent the file to open the file in their Works program, then save it
as a .doc file, the Word viewer would then be able to open it. They
could also save it as an .html file and it would open in your browser..
