Do you need to keep your SLD & REP folder?

Once you have made your component and entered it into the database, is it
safe to remove or delete the SLD and REP folder?

I just don't like to have too much stuff laying around. Once I've processed
my components I like to back them up and move them elsewhere.

It is a good idea to back up these items for future updates and recover from
corrupted databases.
