Do not open the Outlook 2003 Outbox

I've been diagnosing some strange behaviour in Outlook
2003 on Windows XP with a single dial-up internet account.
All the current XP and Office updates have been applied.

Any time you select the Outbox to see what is waiting to
go on the next "Send/Receive", the first message
highlighted will immediately become unsendable and appear
listed under Date None instead of Date Today. If you click
on any other message that too will become unsendable and
listed under Date None.

The work around is simple - do not look in the Outbox
because you will wreck at least one outgoing message each
time you do.

I've had a good hunt through the MS support resources and
generally on the web and not seen mention of this. If
anyone knows of further information or fixes, please let
me know!

Is the reading pane on or off? (should be off)

Do you have ICQ installed? (ICQ has an addin that might be trying to read
the recipients collection. This causes the message to revert to an
unsendable state. Disable this addin and all will be well.)

Outside of that, you should be able to look at the items in the outbox.
Just need to find out what is trying to read the properties of the messages
when you switch folders.

Are you using Norton Internet Security or Anti-Spam? I think this fault may be
related to NIS/NAS.

Also watch for ICQ. (It adds an addin to Tools | Options | Other tab |
Advanced Options | COM Addins)
