I'm using WinXP Pro Sp2 & all updates.
I have the unicows.dll file in my c:\TempEI4 folder. afaik,
it's not doing any harm by being there except I not only
didn't put it there, I don't know what did. For that reason
I find it annoying. Do I need to keep Unicows.dll file?

Search using Google!
http://www.google.com/
(How-to: http://www.google.com/intl/en/help/basics.html )

Example Finds:

http://www.winxptalk.com/ftopic96408.html
.... seems to imply it is related to MSN Messenger

http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/dlllibrary/unicows/
"... unicows.dll is a module associated with Microsoft (R) Windows (R) 95,
Windows (R) 98, and Windows (R) Millennium Operating Systems from Microsoft
Corporation ..."

Finally...

http://www.bang.ro/dll/unicows.dll.htm
"... The unicows.dll file is the main dll file from what is known as the
Microsoft Layer for Unicode (MSLU). The unicows.dll file is actually
intended to be used on Win9x and WinMe operating systems, and its purpose is
to provide a layer over the Win32 API, allowing developers to create a
single Unicode version of their program.

On Windows XP, it appears that this file is not needed because XP provides
such support for Unicode by itself. However, a rather high number of
computer users are having problems with the unicows.dll file, usually
getting error messages when attempting to run certain progams, mainly
because they try to use programs that need to call this file, even if they
are placed on a Windows XP operating system. If the the unicows.dll file is
missing or corrupted, applications depending on it will fail to run ..."

Thanks Shenan, but I phrased that question really badly.
Thank you for the reference to Google but I had already
searched for "tempei4 unicows.dll". I got the 8 most
relevant results from 19.

I considered the "tempei4" reference was important as I
have 5 other copies of the file in various folders inc
Office, Java, System32, etc. All these files have diferent
Date Modified dates & are different sizes. so why would I
have a unicows.dll file in the TempEI4 folder?
