My telnet.exe file was infected with the Trojan.killAV virus--Norton could
not clean it so I had to delete it. Do I need this file for Win XP Home
edition and if so where can I download it--I have a HP cpmputer with 6
restore disks--I cannot find the telnet.exe file on any of those restore
disks.

If you have never used it before, you probably don't need it.
It is just for connecting to other machines via the telnet protocol - usually
*unix machines, or devices like printers/switches.
Since telnet is not secure, many machines no longer use it anyway, and now use
something like SSH.
If you really need telnet, you can download free SSH clients like PuTTY that
will also do telnet. Or use hyperterminal.
