Pink Sparkle Girl

My PC has developed several problems in the past couple of days. I have
recently done a fresh install of XP on my machine as it developed errors and
wouldn't start up (I have 3 partitions, one with Win98 on, one for my files
and the XP one which I reformatted before installing anything back on it).
All updates are loaded and Anti Viruses up to date, but think something must
have crept into my computer while things were updating.

These are the most annoying symptoms:

1. My mouse is behaving strangely. It opens files on a single click
sometimes (it is not set to do this), and other times takes ages for them to
open. Sometimes programs/files will open up and I don't appear to have
clicked on them.

2. IE sometimes closes by itself when I close another program (never the
same one).

I have done Spyware/Virus checks with Spybot, Adaware, CWShredder, Ewido,
Norton...the only things any of them find are cookies and Norton finds
nothing.Windows updates have been installed.I tried System Restore to the
two most recent points but neither works. There are no updated drivers for my
mouse.

I don't know what else to do now!

If there is something causing these symptoms then I'm buggered if I know to
look. Oh yes, I also ran System File Checker but is hasn't helped.

Can anyone help?

My mouse rollers are clean. It is not the pointed but the buttons which are
reacting quicker than they should - opening up files & programs I have only
clicked on once (as I said, I have not set the PC to work like that). It
also opens up things as I move the mouse over them having clicked once on
something else say, and the mouse moves over something next to it. Is this a
physical problem with the buttons. My last mouse lost sensitivity on the
left button, this is the opposite! I shall of course try another mouse as I
have found no traces of a virus which could cause such behaviour.

Ons 09 Nov 2005 MS auto upgraded my Windows XT and I began to have problems
with saving files to my internal harddrive, my external harddrive and my
flash card drive. Kept getting error msg: dive full or too many files open;
try another drive.
This has caused me hours of suffering over what could be the problem, and
when I saw all the problems other people have been experiencing the past few
days since the XT upgrade I figured that was the problem, so I restoerd my
computer to 07 Nov 2005, and guess what????? Problem solved.... TRY RESTORING
TO AN EARLIER DATE THAN 09 NOV 2005 and see if your mouse works correctly.

I couldn't use System Restore, I tried two dates (both previous to 9th) but
neither worked. I recently turned it off while doing a series of virus
scans, so have no restore points before 12th now anyway.

ello, does windows close if you put mouse over X icon without pressing mouse
button? if so uninstall mouse drivers, (i have MS wireless optical) with
simular problem. reboot pc and try that, if it works DON'T install drivers
again as same will happen again. only way i found in end was to do clean
install of windows as it seemed to be a corrupt system file or sommmit that
caused it
