Do I Connect to Password Protected Access DB

T

Tony Lin

I have a password protected Access DB. It is not a user specific password,
just a password that applies to the entire DB. I have been unsuccessful
trying to connect to this DB using Server Explorer in Visual Studio .NET.

If I specify a User Name of Admin, enter my password, and press "Test
Connection", I get an error message "Test Connection failed because of error
initializing Provider. The workgroup file is missing or opened exclusively
by another user."

I get the same error if I use a blank User Name.

How do I connect to a password protected Access DB?

I have no trouble connecting to non-password connected Access DB's. I also
have no trouble opening the password protect DB from Access.

To connect to a password-protected Access database, add the following to
your ADO connection string:

"JETOLEDB:Database Password=YourPassword;"

When creating a database connection in Server Explorer, after you select
the Jet OLEDB provider, this setting is available on the All tab of the
dialog box.

Hope this helps!
