DNS ?

Try to find which AD role hold that sever.For instance my PDC emulator
returns when i ping mydomain.
 
Running Windows 2000 Active Director
Windows 2000 Professional for Client

Not sure if this is a DNS problem but when I ping our domain name "domain.ie" it resolves the secondary domain controller (BDC) on the networks IP address for me? I don't think that this matters but is it not supposed to resolve the IP address of my main domain controller

Also, i checked the event logs and there are no error messages about DNS/WINS, etc. and I've also used tools like nslookup to resolve my DNS names successfully so i think that my DNS is working correctly
