DNS - Unable to resolve

I have read through these forums extensively and this seems to be a common
affliction.

I 99% of times have a trouble-free browsing experience, so can someone (pref
and expert in these things) explain why suddenly, overnight, just one
specific website becomes unavailable? I can access it from other machines and
even off another machine through my router. As I said, this has happened with
no system changes.

I have flushed dns, reset router, tried other DNS values known to work etc
etc.

Hi there Ben.

Done that, done all the normal immediate action drills. No joy. Even my MCP
mate is stumped. It seems to be so inconsistent. Its just one website.

Ta for your prompt response. Better than the clowns at Tiscali

Hi,

Just a guess, did you also install IE 7 beta on other systems?

Reading through your information below, I just guess it might be the problem
of IE 6 & 7 coexist in the same system.

But I am not certain about this.

I had this problem a couple of years ago where I couldn't get to the Weather
Underground webpage. I even installed Firefox and it had the same problem as
IE. My system was dual-boot with Linux, and Firefox under Linux had no
problem. Even other systems in the same site worked fine. It was just this
particular install of Windows XP that had the problem, and it arose over
time, one day it just stop going to wunderground.com. The solution at the
time was to reinstall Windows as flushing dns and clearing caches didn't
help, neither did rebooting; I lived with it for weeks thinking it was my ISP
blocking dns referrals on wunderground.com before I checked other computers.

Now I'm getting the problem again, this time with mail.yahoo.com; very
annoying. www.yahoo.com works, but when I click the Mail button it times out
the browser, saying page can not be located. Both IE and Opera exhibit the
problem. Other computers on site and Vista on the same box work fine.

This is a very obscure problem that is difficult to search for in KBs, so
human assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Ben,

Its always the one site. The only thing my ISP can tell me is to point my
dns settings to their servers, which i have done all along. drawing blanks on
other suggestions too

Any other 'experts' have an opinion?

When the problem comes up, can you access the website by IP address? Find out
the address, by using one of the following tools:
All Net Tools: http://www.all-nettools.com/tools1.htm
All Net Tools: http://216.92.207.177/toolbox
DNS Stuff: http://www.dnsstuff.com/

If you see no improvement by IP address, research the MTU issue. See my
article, and some of the linked articles, for information:
