DNS to DHCP Release

D

Debbie Fisher

When a W2K client releases its DHCP address, the ptr
records are not being removed from DDNS. (The server is
set up to remove A records and these ARE being removed).
The DHCP server is not on a DC.

As Microsoft themselves might say, this feature is by design. You can use
scavenging to clear up old ptr records if they are causing you a problem and
also check out the fix in this KB http://support.microsoft.com/?id=306780. I
believe this oversight is corrected in 2003 DNS\DHCP.
