I have had this happen a couple of times now.
Scenario: Laptop computer using checkpoint securemote client. Running
Windows XP. due to a VPN issue, we disable or uninstall securemote. Change
the DNS settings in the TCP/IP settings of the network connection to reflect
public DNS servers instead of private DNS server.
reboot. run nslookup website.
Says can not contact and lists private DNS server ip address. Double check
and the private DNS ip address is not listed in any DNS setting for any of
the network connections? Where is this DNS setting?
I searched everywhere and can not figure out why the computer is still
trying to use the old DNS setting.
Please point me in the right direction - is there some place other than the
DNS servers listed in the network connections TCP/IP properties that the
windows XP operating system uses. Note: url would not resolve in browser,
ping or nslookup, however, ping for ip addresses internal and external work,
nslookup defining a public dns server works.
Very puzzled.
