DNS SRV folders missing - event id 5781

Before I posted this message I searched the archives for answers but
nothing previously suggested corrected the problems that I am having.

First of all my Server is a Windows 2000 server SP4, the PDC, the GC,
and internal domain name is Jordan.

In the process of connecting my network with our coporate network the
primary ad-integrated zone was deleted. When I tried to recreate the
ad-integrated zone it did not recreate the srv folders(_msdcs, _tcp,
_udp, _sites). I began receiving the netlogon 5781 events in my
system event log. I then tried the suggested methods for restoring
those folders. I restored from backup the dns file, the netlogon.dnb,
and the netlogon.dns. I flushed the dns, re-registered, then stopped
and started the netlogon service. I have also tried adding the
UpdateTopLevelDomainZones registry key but that did not correct the
problem. And I have tried the netdiag /fix and dcdiag /fix but nothing
seems to be correcting the problem.

When I run dcdiag I receive the following message

IP address. Check the DNS server, DHCP, server name, etc
Although the Guid DNS name
(1cc65162-b7c4-47fc-9bb6-24e35ba9f443._msdcs.Jordan) couldn't
be
resolved, the server name (jci-mail.Jordan) resolved to the
IP address
(192.168.2.2) and was pingable. Check that the IP address is
registered correctly with the DNS server.

This is just a guess, but, have you tried rebooting the DC's responsible for
logons? They will auto register themselves in DNS when they startup. This
registration process should create the entries in question.

(192.168.2.2) and was pingable. Check that the IP address is
registered correctly with the DNS server.

Jordan, you have a single label domain name, which is invalid with DNS and
causes havoc. There is a reg entry to "bandaid" it, but not recommended.

Reason:
jci-mail.Jordan is not a valid DNS name. It should have a TLD (top level
domain) such as:
jci-mail.Jordan.com
or
jci-mail.Jordan.local
or
jci-mail.Jordan.corp
etc.

Here's what I need to confirm your configuration and what's going on to give
you a valid suggestion for a fix/workaround:

1. *Unedited* ipconfig /all.
2. The domain name that shows up in ADUC.
3. The name of the zone in DNS that you created.
4. If you set updates to YES in that zone.

3.Modify all computers (50-60) to attach to the new domain.
4.Attach all member servers to the new domain
5.Demote the current PDC(Jordan) and attach that server to the new
domain

Would this correct my problem as well as prevent future problems with
AD & DNS?

Jared, that all sounds like an excellent idea! And yes, the ADMT tool will
work in this fashion since it uses the NetBIOS domain for connectivity and
the trusts, so if you can, go for it!

Yes, it's a single label name. Not good.

I like your other post with the idea of migrating it into a clean pristing

Thanks for the confirmation on my last suggestion. I guess that is
what we will be doing. I am just glad we ran into this problem now
instead of 2-3 months from now, when the new server is all finished.
