I have created a new 2000 domain (from an upgaded NT4 PDC)

I have created the domain in a new forest.

In DNS, I want to tell the server where to go for external DNS lookups, but
I can't.

In other systems (not in this organisation), I can enter addresses on the
Forwarders tab under dns/xyz properties.

However, on this system, the Enable forwarders check box is not available,
and a message to the effect that I can't do this (not on site, so can't
rember the exact wording)

Not unsurprisingly, I can't see the internet from either the server otr any
clients, although it is there.

Thanks in advance if you can help.

Delete the "." (dot) forward lookup zone that is created by default.

You may have to refresh the DNS snapin to enable the forwarders.
