on computername1, when i ping computername1 it goes through to 169.#.#.#,
when its IP address is really 192.#.#.#.
When i go to computer2 and ping computername1 it goes through to the correct
192 IP address.
WINS is installed on computername2, i add its 192 ip address to it, and it
changes it to the 169 ip address and is unable to connect
any suggestions?

Well, the 169.x.x.x number indicates the machine is not getting a DHCP
address. You'll have to figure out why, such as checking cable connections,
if the DHCP server is actually up and running and responding, if other
clients are getting an IP and this one is not, etc.

I see. Didn't know you had WINS running. Then manually delete it from the
WINS database. This also may indicate there are mutliple IPs for the one
name. Make sure the correct one shows up.
