Hi

We installed Windows 2003 Server a few months ago and we're
experiencing issues with it.
Recently we keep on having to reboot the server in order to log in
from the 20 XP workstations connected to it.

The event log shows 4 errors and 1 information, all with the same time
stamp. and it repeats these events roughly every hour.

15:23:55 Source:DNS Event ID: 4007
The DNS server was unable to open zone _msdcs.rjs-network in the Acive
Directory from the application directory partition ForestDnsZones.RJS-
NETWORK. This DNS server is configured to obtain and use information
from the directory for this zone and is unable to load the zone
without it. check that the Active Directory is functioning properly
and reload the zone. The event data is the error code.

Do you have another DC in the domain?
In my research on these events, they happen more often when there is or has
been a second DC in Active Directory and it is expecting to find its DNS
server during boot up.
When a DC starts up and loads TCP/IP, it begins looking for a DNS server
with its zones. If it is it's own DNS and its DNS server starts before
Active Directoy, it cannot load the zones out of AD because AD has not
started yet.

Another question, is your Domain actaully a single-label name as in your
example?(RJS)
If it is this will compound your Active Directory woes even more because the
name is not DNS compliant because is has no heirarchy, and DNS Clients
running Win2kSP4 and later cannot by default register in a single-label DNS
zone.
