DNS on global catalog server

J

JOE

I'm about to switch to AD integrated zones for DNS. We
are currently running dns1 and dns2 for primary/secondary
dns.

Is the process something like this?

1) install dns on the global catalog server as a secondary
to dns1
2) switch the zones to primary on the global catalog server
for the ones to be AD integrated
3) change the zone type to AD integrated

Is it OK to install dns on the global catalog server when
switching to AD integrated zones?

Thank you,
Joe

Yes, it isn't directly related.

In fact, since GCs need to replicate (in addition to the ordinary DCs)
it makes sense that these be the MOST ACCESSIBLE servers "cross
site" and that is likely true for your DNS in a multi-site situation too.

Not enough is normally said about the fact that all the GCs in the Forest
need to setup a replication topology that is similar to what the DCs for
EACH domain do.

This is of particular interest if you start picking your own Bridgehead
servers (due to firewall filters most especially.)

Installing DNS on the GC won't be a problem.
