DNS Forwarding

Sean D.

I in a Windows 2000 AD forest and i'm using Microsoft
DNS. How can I forward DNS queries (for example) from
abc.com, which is internal to 123.net in our DMZ for
123.net name resolution. I've set up a forwarder in
abc.com to forward 123.net queries to a DNS server in
123.net, but all abc.com queries are being forwared to
123.net. I understand in 2003 AD DNS you can specify
which dns queries are forwared to a specific dns domain.
Can this be done in Win2k dns?

Thanks...Sean

No, can't be done in Win2000.

Also, not sure what you mean abc.com queries is being forwarded? If a server
is authorative for a zone, (meaning that the zone exists on that machine),
it will NOT forward any requests for it, but rather will look in it's own
database. If the answer is not there, then there is no answer and it will
not forward.

Hello Sean,

What you are talking about is conditional forwarding. This is only capable
in Windows 2003. Can you create a secondary zone on abc.com for 123.net?
Is this allowable?
