Hi Friends.
My name is fasahat.i am working as a system
engineer for a acompany in Middle East. I have a small
problem regarding my DNS Servers.I have a windows 2000
network with two Domain controllers.I have enabled
Forwaders of My External DNS Server which is hosted by
ISP on my Primary Domain Controller which is my DNS
Server.The zone is Activedirectory Integrated.When i test
the Recurssion through the DNS Monitoring tab it is giving
PASS.The problem is once i enable the Forwader on my Win2k
BDC DNS Server with same IP Address of External DNS Server
as on my PDC and once i test the Recursion on DNS
Monitoring tab for iterative query it is giving PASS and
for Recursive Query it is giving Fail.I have a Cisco
Firewall on my network which is acting as the Gateway.Do i
have to set any rule on the Firewall for my BDC to allow
Forwarding in case my PDC goes down i can still access my
external DNS Servers through my BDC Server,

I need your help on this subject.

Cheers
Fasahat.

Fasahat,
Your firewall must allow your BDC to send DNS request to the Internet. This means port 53 must be opened for both Domain controllers on your firewall.
