DNS Event ID 7063

I'm getting event id 7063's in all child domain
controllers that forward to the forest root domain
controllers. The log entry states that the DNS servers
being forwarded to are not recursive but they are set to
be recursive. Has any one else experienced this? I found
zero in MS Knowledge base.

The message you are getting is accurate in that the DNS you are using as a
forwarder will not accept forwarded queries.

Use this: 4.2.2.2. It works fine!

DNS server properties, on the Advanced tab, clear the "disable recursion"
check box.

I have the "disable recursion" checkbox cleared, but I
still receive the 7063 errors on the child domain DNS
servers. That is the piece that has me perplexed. I do
appreciate you trying to assist.

What about the forwarders on the parent DNS, what is its forwarder?

On the child DNS server, what address or machine is it being forwarded to?

The architecture is a forest root domain with two DNS
servers that are also the domain controllers.
The child domain has domain controllers that are also DNS
servers, all of the child domain DNS servers forward to
the root domain DNS servers.
The root domain DNS servers have a delegated zone for the
child domain DNS zone. The root domain DNS servers
forward to root hints.

Parent DNS forward to Root Hints or just use Root Hints?
The Root Hint servers cannot be used as forwarders try these two as
forwarders 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2.

Unless we're skewing the terminology here, then it's pretty much as Kevin
said, you can't configure a forwarder to forward to a Root Hint server (one
of those 13 Root Hint nameservers that show up in your Root Hints tab).

Configure a forwarder at the Root domain DNS to forward to your ISP, not an
ISC Root Hint nameserver. Those two addresses Kevin gave you will work (they
are not Root Hint servers). If you want to use your Root hints, uncheck the
forwarding option.
