DNS and ISP

Erik

Hi all,
I use a W2K DC with AD domain <internal.company.com> setup. DNS-server is
running on this DC.
Two forward lookup zones are setup: <.> and <internal.company.com>. Both
integrated with AD.
Clients have been connecting to the internet through a proxyserver but now I
added an ADSL-router to the network and want the clients to use this router
(through NAT).
The DNS-server does not handle lookups outside the local network. How do I
setup the DNS-server to pass through a DNS-lookup request to the DNS-server
of my ISP?

Delete the <.> forward lookup zone.
It will then start resolving internet names, you can optionally
(recommended) enable forwarders to your ISP on the Forwarders Tab.

BTW, all Win2k and newer members of your Win2k Domain must use the local DNS
server only.

Thanks for your reply.
I prefer your recommended method but unfortunately I cannot enter any
IP-address on the Forwarders Tab.
All options on the Tab are unavailable (grey).
Before I try and mix up something: Do I have to delete the <.> zone and then
afterwards enable forwarders? Or is it possible to enable forwarders without
deleting the <.> zone?

Deleting it, as Kevin recommended, is the preferred and recommended method
and is the consensus by everyone in this newsgroup as well as the MS
engineers. It does not harm anything and it will actually help. It even
tells you to do that in that link to that article Kevin previously supplied
you.
