Folks:

I would like to mix DNS and AD on both win 2000 & win 2003 platforms. Are
there any major considerations to watch out for ?

My win 2000 home network is connnected to the Internet. I want to setup an
internal DNS Server.

How do I AVOID setting up my own DNS Server as a Root Server ? By the way
is this a critical consideration ?

Thanks,
John.

No major issues beyond those require to install or upgrade a Win2003 DC
into a Win2000 Domain.

You must make sure the Win2000 DCs are have recent Service Packs (SP3
is generally required but there is little reason not to go to SP4 anyway.)

Then you do the AD and ForestPrep (which are part of the install/upgrade of
a Win2003 DC so no big deal.)

Your replication must be up to date and fully functional, and you must clean
up
any "dead" DCs or "dead" domains, but that is just housekeeping in any
domain.
